What is a Dental Implant?
Dental implants are shaped similar to the root of a tooth and are made of a Titanium alloy that the jaw bone is very compatible with and actually integrates to it. Various types of components screw onto the implants to support dentures, crowns and bridges.
Implant or Tooth Supported Over-dentures:
Change your life today!
Having been doing Implant Supported Over-dentures for almost 20 years, the excitement that comes from our patients continues over the years. Most are happy to speak with you about their experience and why they would strongly encourage you to share in their positive quality of life changes.
If you have problems with denture stability, retention or discomfort, Dr. Fagin can show you the advantages of using over-dentures . When doing an over-denture, we selectively save and overlay some of your own teeth with the denture or utilize dental implants for support and retention of the denture. Patients with specific needs find that using over-dentures can reduce or eliminate worrisome denture movement.
Implant supported bar over-dentures or tooth-retained over-dentures offer patients a solution to the awkward use of adhesives and home remedies. Secured over-dentures offer additional confidence with improved chewing efficiency and during speaking, kissing, and even swimming. Over-dentures, as with conventional dentures, enhances facial appearance through increased lip and cheek support. Patients discover they approach all aspects of their life with more confidence.
In addition, remember that the sooner you replace lost teeth with dental implants, the better you preserve your bone. The longer without teeth, the more bone is lost and the more complicated or compromised the options become.

The “All-on-4®” immediate same-day conversion of your denture to fixed implant supported teeth will rid you of the palatal coverage of an upper denture and problems with loose fitting lower dentures. Four to six strategically placed NobelBiocare implants are placed by the oral surgeon in pre-planned positions in either the upper or lower jaw bone, and using specially designed screw attachments, Dr. Fagin will attach and convert you complete denture as a fixed, non-removable bridge. Doing this will improve taste, eliminate the gag reflex and provide a remarkable quality of life transformation, feeling secure and confident with eating and speaking as well as kissing. More people suffer with loose fitting lower dentures, causing great difficulty with eating and speaking. Gobs of denture adhesives can now be thrown away. This transformation with your new “All-on-4”® implant supported hybrid fixed bridge can actually often happen in less than a day! After six months of integration to bone, the final restoration can be made and attached to the implants. We work closely with an oral surgery office, as a specialty team, to plan and execute efficiently your new restoration. For those about to lose their teeth, sometimes this can even be done on the same day as extractions so you never have to suffer through those first few months. Call today for more information.
Single Tooth Implant Restorations:
Preserve and protect your good teeth and avoid crowning them to hold a fixed bridge by replacing individual teeth with implant-supported crowns. Studies show that a three tooth fixed bridge connecting natural teeth has significantly increased risk of failure from decay or endodontic (root canal) complications from greater difficulty flossing and from the trauma of preparing these teeth for the bridge, when compared to implant restorations. This is especially true if the teeth holding the bridge didn't need crowns. And the surgical placement of an implant can often be less traumatic than an extraction. Today, with the precision of Cad-Cam technology, strong beautifully esthetic all-porcelain crowns can be fabricated on your implants.
Implants vs. Endodontic treatment to save your tooth :
It is often more practical to extract a tooth rather than to have endodontic (root canal) treatment with a post and crown and sometimes periodontal surgery. The American Endodontic Association states that treatment outcomes are similar, so one has to weigh all the clinical implications of saving a tooth. In some situations the implant restoration may prove more predictable over time.

Pre-planning for success is critical to positive implant outcomes. We will custom fabricate special Surgical Guides that may be used for cross-sectional x-rays to assess bone width, height and density. This way there are no surprises at time of surgery. The guide is used by the surgeon to control precise implant positioning for the final restorations. Sometimes there is inadequate bone width or height, so the surgeon will graft bone to the site. Knowing this ahead creates smooth sailing for both the patient and doctors.
